I was going crazy with a brand new router trying to configure it with my laptop by cable, the ethernet adapter wasn't working. The next day with a refreshed sense I realized one of the limiter software could be the culprit. I uninstalled it and then surprise, wired lan was working again. I didn't even need to reboot, the problem was gone immediately after uninstallation was completed. It's necessary to say that wlan adapter was working fine, but the router came with WPA2 security enabled. and I was having trouble figuring out which was the password.
Also don't forget to select the proper network location when a new one is detected, this is an annoy feature of Windows 7, whenever you connect to a wired or wireless network, you must choose the proper location or some of all functionalities won't work. If you missed or closed the dialog box you can change later by looking around network properties..
